Some important compositions for all classes:

Female Education

Napoleon once said "Give me an educated mother and I will give you an educated nation.” This statement is enough to prove the importance of female education. No nation can progress without educated mothers. Allah has created both man and woman equally. They are like the two sides of a coin. One is incomplete without the other. So, education cannot be the only possession of a single class or sex. Rather, it should be imparted equally to both men and women. Our religion has also made education compulsory for all.

In the past, our women folk were confined within the four walls of home. Parents did not allow them to receive education and to participate in any outside work. Early marriage, religious misinterpretation and the narrowness of our outlook created bar to the path of education. These were great disadvantages. Parents also thought it waste of time and money to educate their girls. They did not understand that if girl children were educated they could be as competent as male children.

As our women folk constitute almost half of our total population, no real development is possible keeping them uneducated. We must not forget that family is the primary training ground of human beings, and mother is at the center. An educated mother knows well how to make and shape the character of her children. She knows well how to bring up her children, to educate them and to make them worthy. In domestic life, she can also extend her helping hand to her husband. So, there is no alternative to female education.

It is a matter of great delight that women have started to come out of their cocoons. Being educated, they are advancing forward and joining a wide range of professions. They have already been able to prove their abilities. They are also becoming successful in establishing themselves in educational,  scientific, industrial, cultural, philosophical, and literary arenas. Even they have become successful in exposing their talent in politics and politicization. In fact, they are becoming self-dependent day by day.

However, all disadvantages of female education including male domination of the society, early marriage and religious misinterpretation must be removed in the underdeveloped countries. The good news is that recently the scenario of female education has started to change. All possible facilities of female education have been extended. Education for girls up to degree level has been made free with a monthly stipend. More schools and colleges for girls are being set up to spread female education. If a mother is not educated, the child is not taken care of properly. So, all of us should come forward to spread female education.

Natural calamities in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a land of natural calamities. Here flood, cyclone, drought, famine destroy the life and property every year. People have to live here fighting against the frequent natural calamities like flood, cyclone, tidal bore, heavy down-pour, and drought. Of all these natural calamities, floods and cyclones are very common. They visit our country almost every year.

Floods in our country are caused in many ways. Among them heavy rainfall during the rainy season and rush of water from the upper north are the main causes of flood. It causes sudden increase of water in the rivers and canals which overflow their banks and cause flood. Sometimes violent cyclones, tidal bores, tsunami and melting of snow on mountains cause devastating floods.

Flood causes huge loss of our life and property and brings catastrophic sufferings to the people of the country. The crop fields, houses, roads and streets go under water. Standing crops and vegetables are damaged and millions of people become homeless. They face the scarcity of food, drinkable water, shelter and suffer much. Epidemic and famine break out to add to the misery and suffering of the flood affected people.

Cyclone is another natural calamity in our country. It revolves violently round a centre, advances rapidly and hits the offshore islands and mainland. During the last few years, several devastating cyclones hit Bangladesh and caused immense harm to the people. This weather condition is a curse, especially to the people of coastal areas of Bangladesh.

Cyclones in Bangladesh usually originate from the Bay of Bengal and blows to the mainland with tidal bore. It is often associated with thunders and heavy showers. It takes away the lives of many people and animals. It destroys houses, properties, crops and trees. It also creates the scarcity of food and spread different kinds of diseases like diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, fever etc. in all the affected areas.

However, the losses of cyclones can be reduced to some extent by using modern technology of weather forecasting and prior warning. Flood can also be prevented by building of embankments and barrages and by developing a well-planned irrigation system. The river beds should be dredged for carrying more water by the rivers.

In fine, the people of Bangladesh have no option but to live here fighting against all kinds of natural calamities as they have nothing to do against these natural calamities. Moreover, since there is no ways to stop these natural calamities, the government should take effective measures to mitigate the sufferings of the victims.

Science in Everyday life

Science has achieved a tremendous advancement during the last few decades. Every sphere of human life is largely influenced by science. From the time we get up from bed till time to go to bed, we feel the influence of science. Not only the family life but also the general life in society has a touch of science. The attachments of science to our everyday life are many. Yet let us mention some of the major fields where we cannot do without science.

Electricity is the first gift that we owe very much to science. It helps us to lit lights, running fans, refrigerators, television, washing machines and other electrical appliances. The computer also cannot run without electricity.

By using the modern transports like bus, truck, train and aircraft, we can travel a long distance within a very short time. Carrying men and materials from one place to another has also become easier. Science is used commonly in medical science. It helps with the diagnosis of diseases and manufacturing and prescribing medicines. X-ray, ECG etc. are used to diagnosis diseases very accurately.

With the help of science, multi-storied buildings are constructed. Many people can be accommodated in these buildings at a time with all modern amenities like gas, electricity, telephone, satellite channels etc.

It has brought about a revolutionary change in the field of telecommunication. In the twinkle of an eye, a message can be sent from one corner of the world to the other corners through fax, telex, telephone, mobile phone, satellite and internet.

We use science in weather forecasting nowadays. By studying the satellite pictures we can know about the impending weather and can take step accordingly.

Scientific methods of cultivation are now being used to increase the production of crops. With the use of scientific knowledge and tools, we can determine which soil is suitable for which crops. We can prevent pest by chemicals. Again chemical fertilizers are used to increase food production.

There are many other areas of our everyday life where we use science. They are too many to mention. In short, we are indebted to science from our birth to our death. It would be ungratefulness if we do not acknowledge the boons of science in our everyday life.

My aim in life

There is a saying that a man without an aim in life is like a ship without a rudder. We all know that a ship without a rudder faces danger. In the same way, a man without an aim in life cannot reach his goal. Therefore, each person should have a definite aim in life. This aim in life varies from person to person, society to society, and country to country. Besides, it depends on one's taste, liking, and surrounding environment.

Someone wants to be a doctor, someone wants to be an engineer and someone wants to be an officer. Like others I also nourish an aim in life. My aim in life is to become a teacher in future life. It is undoubtedly a difficult task to fix an aim in life. I also faced much problem to fix my aim in life. At long last I had been able to fix my aim in life after a lot of thinking and analysis. Of course, I had specific reasons for my choice.

The first reason in favour of my choice is the belief that man is a lifelong student in the lap of nature. There is no end of knowledge and this hunger for knowledge haunts me madly. The second reason for my choice is the belief that it is mother of all professions. Everybody, high ranking and low ranking, civil and military officials, are taught by teachers. What they are today is the work of a teacher.

What I want to be might astonish my parents, friends, and relatives. Because in this age of high competition everybody is in favour of being a doctor, an engineer, a civil or military officer, or a big business magnet or executive. All these professions give people authority and wealth to exercise. But I believe that a teacher is needed everywhere and thus can play a great role everywhere. Above all, it is a noble profession

A good teacher is an asset to the country undoubtedly. He moulds the young minds of the students. He inculcates in them the sense of patriotism, religion, values, morality, social service, etc. He is a model to the students. He is to be followed by the students. A good teacher can build up good citizens whom the country badly need for its overall development. Though, in outward appearance, he leads a very simple life, he is full of high thoughts and ideals.

Sometimes I feel sorry for the economic plight of the teachers in our country. Sometimes it seems to me that the teachers are the objects of pity. Many high level officials and politicians play with their fate. They are not ready to accept and evaluate the service of the teachers. Though they mention teachers as the architects of nation building in their speech, they look down upon them. Until and unless teachers are respected and given due honour in the society, the country will not develop.

In the developed countries, even in our neighbouring country India, teachers are highly respected and well paid. Traffic police salute them when their cars cross them. However, I strongly believe a teacher is the architect of nation building though some negative aspects of this profession pains me. Lastly, I want  to be a teacher and I will remain happy remaining a teacher.
Empowerment of women in Bangladesh

The empowerment of women means giving women power and opportunity to the powerless so that they can join the workforce and contribute to the family income and influence the family and social affairs. It is an important concept for both global and national development. The empowerment of women should be ensured at all levels of the state administration. Women's empowerment is a must if we want to make real progress.

In the past women were confined within the four walls. They were kept away from out of home productive work. The hearth became their workplace. So, cooking, cleaning, washing, giving birth and rearing children became their jobs. Men became the wage earners and all other outdoor activities were their responsibilities. It is unfortunate but true that women are still lagging behind in Bangladesh. They are deprived of enjoying freedom. Throughout their life they have to remain dependent on men.

There are many reasons behind the poor status of women in Bangladesh. Among them social and religious prejudices and customs are noteworthy. All these are belittling their position and dignity. Still the poor parents in our country think that the birth of a girl child will add to their sufferings. Instead of sending her to school, she is married off in her tender age. In her in-law’s house she is not treated well and she is often tortured and mistreated by her husband and others for dowry.

We must not forget that women are as important as men in society. About half of our total population is women. So, it cannot be denied that they too possess equal rights and duties as men. They also have ability and if they are given opportunity, they can also work like men. It is not possible for a nation to make real progress by keeping aloof a half of its total population. So, there is no alternative to making women economically, socially and politically self-reliant if we really want to upgrade their status. So, our attitude towards women should be changed and we should work at our level best to change their social status and financial condition.

It is true that women’s condition has changed somewhat during the last few decades. At present they are playing important roles in all spheres of life. They have come out of their four walls and are working hand in hand with men in all spheres of life. The most important factor for women empowerment is education. Our present government has taken proper steps in this regard. It has declared female education free up to class 12. They should be made self-reliant by imparting to them proper knowledge and employment.

However, at any cost we must make our women conscious of the fact that they have the potentiality to participate in the socio-economic development of the country. If we want to keep pace with the challenge of the new millennium, we must ensure the participation of our women in all development work. Besides, we have to ensure their participation in local bodies and state politics. We should remember that the empowerment of women is a must to build up a happy and prosperous society.

Population problem in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is the most densely populated country in the world though it is a small country of only 1, 47, 570 square kilometers. At present it has a population over 160 million. About 1000 people live per square kilometer here. Every year more than two million people are being added to our population. Like other third world countries, this problem arises mainly for illiteracy and lack of awareness. The problem has now moved out of control, and it has now come to the stage of explosion. As a result, the government has termed it as a number one problem. It is high time for all of us to be aware of the consequences of this problem.

Though the population of a country is an asset, it becomes a problem when the country cannot afford to give its people the basic necessities of life like food, clothing, education, medicine, shelter etc. There are many reasons behind this rapid growth of population. The main reason is illiteracy, and religious superstition. Early marriage, polygamy and dogmatism are also responsible for this high growth rate of population. Last but not the least, the lack of social awareness contributes much to overpopulation. The large population has become a burden for the country. All development activities are restricted for this overpopulation.

We all know that the area of Bangladesh is too small to support its vast population. In this country some people still sleep under the open sky, under the large tree and at railway station. The present growth rate of population in our country is very alarming. It is still 21.6 per thousand. It is obviously a very high growth rate in the world. There are crowds everywhere in buses, trains, bazaars, schools and colleges. This over population has already become a burden for the country as ours is a least developed country and one of the poorest ones in the world. In fact, our economy fails for this huge population.

This over population is creating a serious threat to the development of the country. Bangladesh cannot feed all her people properly because the production of food cannot keep pace with her increasing people. As a result, there is the shortage of food in our country. When a country has to remain busy to feed its people, it is not possible for that country to implement any development programme. The country also cannot provide job facilities for everyone. As a result, thousands and thousands of people are out of work in this country. Thus the country cannot meet up the basic necessities of life.

To restrict the rapid growth of population some measures should be taken immediately. Firstly, people should be made aware through education. Secondly, early marriage and polygamy should be banned. Thirdly, the population that we already have should be trained to make into skilled manpower and employed in income generating activities. Besides, we have to export this skilled manpower to earn foreign exchange. Finally, we have to export this skilled manpower abroad and earn foreign exchange to boost our economy.

However, though Bangladesh is a populous country, we cannot definitely say that it is overpopulated. Because the country has a vast unexplored resources, By utilizing those unexplored resources, we can overcome the problems caused by the overpopulation. At any cost, we have to train up our manpower so that they can evolve own technology to boost both industrial and agricultural production. Above all, we have to transform our large population into an important asset.

My childhood memories

“Our sweetest songs are those that tell our saddest thoughts”- said John Keats. Childhood days are the sweetest period of human life. They cheer our heart and make us forget sorrow. My childhood memories are the experience of austerity of discipline and guidance. So, I often look back to my childhood days and try to gather joy from their happy recollections. I remember many things that give me joy even today and many others that fill my mind with pain. Sometimes, I want to get rid of those memories, but they still haunt me in a never ending process. They are the memories of my childhood that sing in my mind.

I was born in a middle class respectable Muslim family. So, I had to follow religious restrictions. I was put under the guidance of a Moulavi to learn Arabic and to learn to recite holy Quran. When I was five years old, I was admitted into the village primary school. There I was admitted to class one. Though the teachers were very strict, they loved me very much. They often inquired me of my problems regarding studies. My joys knew no bounds when I got first grade primary school scholarship. My parents and other relatives blessed me and prayed for my success in life.

After completing the primary education, I got admission to class six in a Govt. High School in the Upazilla headquarters. I had to walk two miles to go to school. It was a very pleasant experience of going to and coming from school. We used to go to and come back from school in a group. We did a lot mischief on our way. The painful experience arrived with my study hours. My mother did not allow me to get up from study before 10 pm. I did not like to study too much. So, I only looked on the page of the book, but did not read a single word. Now, I realize what harm I did to myself.

My village is on the bank of the Brahmaputra. On holidays, I along with my friends used to catch fish and spend a lot of time in the river. My mother often took me to task for this. But she could not stop me. At noon, when she slept, I went out to play with my boyhood friends beguiling her eyes. The memories of plucking flowers, stealing mangoes, lichies, black berries, and other fruits in the company of friends are still fresh in my mind. Sometimes we would even forget to take our midday meals.

The village market was also a place of great interest for me. I used to go there with my father on market days and enjoyed much. To my great joy, my father would often buy me sweets and toys. I must say something about my grandmother. She was very dear to me in my childhood. She often entertained me with funny and interesting stories. I listened to her with rapt attention and would become spellbound. She would lull me to sleep every night by telling me fairy tales which I took to be true.

Today I become reminiscent of my childhood memories and they fill me with joy and pleasure. I feel pleasure when I recollect the golden days of my childhood. How happy I was at my childhood days! Really, it would be very interesting if I got back those days again. Sometimes, I feel sad whenever my childhood days remind me ‘those days are gone, and gone forever’.
Tree Plantaion

It has been a global slogan now that plant tree, save the tree, and save the earth. Trees are the most important gift of nature as they are inseparably related to our life. Since the dawn of civilization, man has a close relationship with trees. Trees produce oxygen and reduce carbondioxide and thus make the atmosphere healthy. They give shade and shelter to people, wild life and birds. We get wood from trees which is an essential item for house building and furniture. Fruits and many kinds of edible stuffs are produced from trees. We also can earn a lot of money by selling fruits and timber. Besides, trees save the soil from erosion and it increases fertility in soil which is the major concern for farmers to grow food.

Trees are not only important for life, it is important for environment as well. It checks natural calamities. Trees keep the temperature of environment sustainable. Trees bear a great impact on climate. A country needs trees to ensure a cool and healthy climate for her people. To maintain ecological balance, there is no alternative to tree plantation. If there is no tree, the balance in ecology will be seriously destroyed. Our existence in this world cannot be imagined without trees. To speak the truth, we are totally dependent on trees for living on this earth. A moment without oxygen which trees supply us, will surely blow out our light of life.

But it is a great regret that we are cutting down trees in such a huge number that the country is going to be a treeless desert and we all will die. On the other hand, we are severely polluting our environment with carbondioxide and thus bring forth our all. The government has already realized the importance of trees and celebrates tree plantation week every year. It is encouraging general people to plant more trees. Mass media have also taken the responsibility to air various programmes to make the people aware of it.

However, trees are our best friends and a big saving for our future generation. So, tree plantation should be one of our prime duties. June and July are the most suitable period for planting trees in our country. Sea beaches, low-lying unused lands, sides of the highways and roads can be brought under the scheme of tree plantation. Both government and private sectors should come forward to raise consciousness among people about the importance of tree plantation. We must plant trees as more as possible in every available place.

My visit to a place of historical interest

Traveling is an important part of education. In the stress and strain of our daily life we become weary. We become impatient to get relieved and relaxed. By travelling we seek refuge from the monotony of life. I am a student of a reputed college where strict discipline is maintained. We enjoy less number of holidays than other institutions. As a result, I along with my friends was waiting for a vacation. We took decision that we would go on a tour to a place of historical interest. At last the long cherished vacation came and we went to visit the Shat Gombuj Mosque and the mausoleum of Khan Jahan Ali at Bagerhat.

We got on the the 'Simanta Express' from Kamlapur Railway Station at around 7.15 pm. The train started to roll after five minutes. For some time we were talking on various subjects. Then I fell asleep. I awoke once on my way to Khulna. It is almost 9 am next morning when we reached Khulna Railway Station. We went to the Parjatan Motel, had our bath and breakfast and took some rest. We left motel right at 11 am and crossed Rupsha Ferry Ghat. Then we got on the bus bound for Bagerhat. After an hour and half, we reached our desired place.

The Mazar of Khan Jahan Ali is a fine one storied building. It has a beautiful dome. Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali was buried there. The tomb was made of cut out stones. It cannot be accurately said where from these stones were brought. But there is a hearsay that saint Khan Jahan Ali brought these stones from Chittagong by floating on water. On the tomb there are some inscriptions in Arabic. An inscription says that he died on 25th October, 1459. There is also a small mosque nearby. A close associate of Khan Jahan Ali was buried outside the tomb. On the night of the full moon of the month of Chaitra, a big fair is held beside the Mazar. Many people attend the fair.

I also visited the Shatgambuj Mosque. It is the largest brick-built mosque in the country. Unfortunately, it is in dilapidated condition now. The mosque stands on sixty pillars having seventy seven exquisitely curved domes. It is said that Khan Jahan Ali ran his administration from there. The mosque is a great attraction to the tourists and visitors. There is also a big pond near the Shatgambuj Mosque. This pond is called 'Ghoradighi' because it was a race course before its excavation. I visited the dighi and came to know many things about the social work of Khan Jahan Ali.

Bagerhat is undoubtedly a place of historical interest. I spent eight hours there and saw many historical things and enjoyed myself. I left Bagerhat but the memory of Bagerhat is still ever fresh in my mind. History is the evidence of the past. We can know our own past culture and heritage by paying visit to the places of historical interests. This will help increase our knowledge and at the same time remove our monotony resulted from study and give us fresher energy for the further study.

Students and social service

Students are the future leaders and makers of a nation. They are the devotees in the temple of learning. So, the most important duty of students is to study seriously with devotion. It does not mean that they are isolated from society. They are also social beings like other classes of people. They enjoy the same social benefits, rights and privileges. So, as members of society, they have certain duties to the society in which they live in. There are many kinds of social services and students have a lot to do in these sectors.

Living in a developing country like ours, students must render some social services for the development and welfare of the nation. So during the long vacation and leisure time, students can open night schools and teach the illiterate working children and adult people. They can also teach the farmers about the modern methods of cultivation, the use of fertilizers and proper caring of crops. They can also suggest them to dig a pond for fish cultivation or to make a farm.

Bangladesh is an over populated country. The illiterate people of our country are superstitious and do not feel the necessity of family planning. Even they are unwilling to adopt family planning. In this regard, students can come forward to raise awareness about population problem. They can teach people the problems of over population and encourage them to adopt family planning.

Students can render immense service in the field of health. The village people and the people living in the slums have no knowledge about health, nutrition and sanitation. The students can teach them about the basic rules of health, nutrition and sanitation. Female students can also teach the uneducated women how to keep their houses neat and clean how to bring up children and look after their health.

Students can prove to be worthy during natural disasters. In times of flood, famine and cyclone, earthquake and epidemic, they can come forward to help the affected people. They can collect money from the rich, rescue the affected, feed the hungry, nurse the sick and cloth the unclothed. During epidemics, medical students can serve the sick with food, clothes and medicine.

To save the country, every student should come forward with a helping hand. They should remember that they are the makers of society and the soldiers of social peace. They should serve the society selflessly during their leisure time or during long vacations.

My favourite hobby

Hobby means one's favorite occupation but not one's main business. A man cannot depend on it for his living, but it is not less important than his main business. It gives us joy and pleasure but we do not pay for it. Everyman should have his own hobby for a sound mind and sound health. A man cannot enjoy his leisure without a hobby. Our life becomes dull and monotonous without hobby. So, it is necessary to have a hobby to enjoy life.

There are many kinds of hobbies like gardening, drawing picture, painting, kite flying, stamp collecting, catching fish, etc. Whatever be one's hobby, it offers one pleasure and relief from monotony. I am a student of class XII. I also have a hobby and it is gardening. It gives me much pleasure, strengthens my health, and refreshes my mind. The most important thing is that it relieves me from my routine work.

I have a garden in front of my reading room. I have planted many kinds of seasonal flower plants in it. I work there with a spade during my leisure. I weed out grass and unnecessary plants and make the soil loose with spade. I also plant new flower plants. I water them regularly. I have also put a fence to make it safe from naughty boys and cattle.

After morning prayer, I go to my garden. My heart leaps up with joy to see my garden full of various flowers. The flowers spread a sweet smell. The beauty and sweet smell of different flowers make me jolly. I get great pleasure everyday when I see the blooming flowers in my garden. The happy smile of the flowers purifies my mind.

Every day I work in my garden at least for two hours. On holidays I work longer in my garden. My toil in the garden makes my body strong. Whenever, my friends, neighbors and relatives come to our home, I take them into my garden and show them various flowers. They become very glad to see my garden and appreciate my taste very much.

I am also very glad to choose this hobby as it helps me to improve my body and mind. I get charmed at the beauty of the flowers of my garden especially when they are tossed by gentle breeze. I also get pleasure when the sweet scent of flowers come into my room. It helps me to forget my worries and anxieties. I think everyone should have a hobby for a cheerful life.

Deforestation and its effects

Deforestation means cutting down trees indiscriminately from an area. It is one of the much talked global problems which is haunting the whole world. People are cutting down trees to meet up their increasing demand. They are also destroying forests in a large scale to increase their cultivable and residential land. Sometimes they cut down trees and destroy forests in the name of development. Moreover, in many parts of Bangladesh, people are to depend on wood for cooking their food. To make fire, they also cut down trees indiscriminately.

Deforestation disturbs our ecological balance. According to the ecologists, there should be 25% forest land of the total land area of a country. In Bangladesh, there is only 16% forest of the total land. In India, there is only 13% forest of the total land. To meet up the basic needs of food and housing, man is destroying forest without caring. Green patches of land are no more green. New areas of the world are becoming deserts as an immediate effect of deforestation. In absence of trees carbondioxide is increasing worldwide. As a result, there is a global warming.

We know that trees give us oxygen and take in carbon dioxide. Due to lack of trees, carbon dioxide is increasing worldwide making the world warmer. It is ultimately causing the green house effect. In fact, deforestation has already started to take a heavy revenge on human beings. Various natural disasters like flood, cyclone are showing their appearance frequently. Inadequate number of trees are also causing drought and damaging crops. Today animals and birds living in the forests are on the verge of extinction due to deforestation.

Deforestation has many adverse effects on climate, agriculture and our life. It causes the rise of sea level. Rising sea level brings about flood. Flood brings untold miseries to the people. Deforestation causes river erosion also. River erosion makes many people homeless and shelterless. So we can see that there is an interconnected link and cycle between human beings, animals, and trees. It is deforestation that may cause desertification in many parts of the world, which will pose a serious threat to our living.

So, we all should be sincere to protect trees and take a firm stand against deforestation. The government should introduce strict law and punish the people who are responsible for deforestation. Alternative use of trees should be found out and tree plantation should be strengthened. Besides, trees that were planted before should be preserved. Thus we can prevent deforestation and ensure a happy and healthy life.

A journey by train

ourney is always fascinating. It refreshes our mind and makes us happy. Journey is a relief in our monotonous everyday life. After a journey we feel relaxed and fresh. It also fills our heart with peace. During the last winter vacation, I got an opportunity to make a journey by train with my family members from Dhaka to Rajshahi. My grandparents live in Rajshahi and my father works as an official in a government office in Dhaka. We generally go to Rajshahi by bus. But that time my father decided to go there by train.

It was 11 December, 2014. We got up early in the morning, took preparation and got on two rickshaws. It took almost half an hour to reach Kamlapur Railway Station. The platform was crowded and people were busy buying tickets. My father bought four tickets from the ticket counter for the 'Ekota Express'. We got into the train and found our seats beside the window. Within a few minutes, the guard blew his whistle and waved his green flag and the train started to move slowly at about 7.30 am. The train left the platform and gradually it attained speed.

However, the train was not so crowded. As the window was open for air movement and I had the seat  beside the window, I could see outside easily. I looked outside through the window and soothed my eyes taking a look at the outside natural beauty. The train was moving at a great speed and there was a great jerking. Farmers were seen working in the fields, village women were seen carrying pitchers of water, fishermen were seen catching fish in the rivers and marshes. All these left a permanent impression on my mind.

As it was an intercity train, it did not stop in many stations and was not very crowded. When it was crossing small stations, it seemed speedier. There were a few hawkers selling boiled eggs, chanachur and betel leaf and fried ground nut. We had our breakfast with bread and boiled eggs. Later an attendant was ordered to bring tea.

The time passed by. During the journey, my father showed me the Indian boarder at hilly station. In fact, I was enjoying everything around me. In this way we passed ten hours and at last reached Rajshahi. My uncle was waiting for us with a car. After coming out of the station, it took only ten minutes to reach my uncle’s house. We were greeted cordially.

Thus the train journey came to an end. Though I made the journey last year, the memory of it is ever fresh in my mind.
